AppleVision Recovery Software for Service Providers
Background
A small percentage of AppleVision 1710 and AppleVision 1710AV monitors will malfunction either during startup or immediately after performing color recalibration. The AppleVision Recovery software is designed to correct this problem. There are two different sets of symptoms that can be associated with this problem.
Symptom 1
• No raster (black screen)
• Power LED is ON
• High voltage is present (you can tell that high voltage is present by a rustling or crackling sound
when the display is turned on or off). NOTE: If high voltage is NOT present, this procedure will
NOT solve the problem.
Symptom 2
• Screen is one predominant color (magenta, green, red, blue, etc.).
• Instead of being black, the left and right edges of the screen may exhibit some luminance.
Instructions
The Macintosh system must support two monitors (unless you have Symptom 2). A working display should be attached to the built-in video port on the computer with a second video port that can support the 1710 display.
Make sure that the Macintosh system has the AppleVision Recovery application and AudioVision (1710) control panel software installed. Make sure the Macintosh and a known good monitor are connected properly to the failed 1710 including ADB. Power up the Macintosh system. Confirm that the known good monitor shows the menu bar and Finder desktop. Reconfigure, or swap the monitor video ports and restart the Macintosh system if necessary.
Run the AppleVision Recovery application. The "black after recaibration" 1710 monitor should display an active raster.
Press the 1710 front panel control to run the monitor control panel software. Select the Color adjustment portion of the control panel. Recalibrate the 1710 display by clicking on the recalibration button. The display should recalibrate successfully and return to an active raster. If this is the case, the display has been recovered and no further service is required for the display.
If the display has been recovered (active raster returns) using the Recovery Utility and the display returns to black (or color) after the recalibration check, please call Apple Computer for assistance.
Restart the Macintosh. Confirm that the 1710 display has an active raster through the entire reboot cycle and that the Finder background is active after the computer completes the restart sequence. If the display was recovered using the Recovery Utility and the display returns to black (or color) during start-up, please call Apple Computer for assistance.
